Older, Easy, and Mystic

I noticed this weekend that several ladies in blogopolis wrote love letters to their bodies, correspondences that were accepting and affirming. I read them and found them refreshing. I woke this morning thinking about writing a love letter to my body but somewhere between my chest and my knees I got derailed into jotting down a note to those known as young, restless, and reformed. Yeah, not sure what all was going on there, but let’s not overthink it, okay? Then again, maybe this is a love letter to my body, sorta.

Dear group at one time described
as young, restless, and reformed –
Not that you really care but it feels
good to at least try and point out
there are some of us not like you,
some of us older, easy, and mystic.
We’ve no problem with orthodoxy
per se, other than its just so damn
orthodox. We realize a symposium
on Jonathan Edwards can make you
giddy but might we suggest instead
using that time and money to drive
down Hwy 1 and stay in Big Sur?
No thanks? Okay, just a thought.
Not that you’ll lose any sleep over
this but do know we’ve no desire
to try and change you in any way,
its a free country and all that jazz.
But in the interest of full disclosure
we’re compelled to show our cards:
there are more of us than you think,
we can live for years on poetry, and
we’re not afraid of dreamcatchers or you.

Way to kick the hornets’ nest.

I cannot possibly put into words how very much I LOVE THIS. Thank you. “Older, Easy, and Mystic.” Amen. And let’s hear it for Hwy 1 over JEdwards every.single.time.

Thanks, Diana…I betcha Edwards would’ve loved Hwy 1, huh?

Yes, yes, yes! (Just like Larry said) Kick that hornet’s nest, and we all run away, laughing, and cannonball off the pier into the water.

Oh, gracious, John. YES. I love this down deep to my bones.

Hi, Sarah…thank you, and I appreciated your letter very much.

To sit in His sanctuary (Bandon, Oregon is OUR Big Sur) is to listen to the waves crashing out their own worship to the Creator of our Universe. To return refreshed in the knowledge of His love for me, is to be prepared to share His love to the body. Thank you for the reminder.

Hope, you’re very welcome…thanks for stopping by.

What if I like Jonathan Edwards, Hwy 1, and poetry? Does that mean I’m really jacked up? 🙂

    • thebeautifuldue on July 15, 2012 at 6:57 pm

Angel, yes, it appears you’re really jacked-up, but the combination of those three ‘likes’ lends a certain flair this world desperately needs.

Geez, John, I wasn’t going to be online today. You’ve just made my one stop worth it and I can check back out happy, now. 🙂

    ” . . . older, easy and mystic.” Gah! I love this.

    • thebeautifuldue on July 15, 2012 at 6:59 pm

Thanks, Erika…I feel the phrase deserves one of those nifty rubber bracelets, don’t you?

It’s a different body–one we each call our own. I’m happy to know there are so many of us, living on poetry because we can’t dance to the strange, sexy music played everywhere.

    • thebeautifuldue on July 15, 2012 at 7:02 pm

Bonnie, yes, there are many of us…many more than we thought. Thanks for stopping by.

Last night at Brandi Carlile concert she said she was having the best day of her life because she was finaling headlining Red Rocks amphitheatre. At one point she said, “Okay, let’s get mystical” and everyone braced for one of her hits, like The Story or Hallelujah. Instead she broke out into Bohemian Rhapsody and the audience joined in.

I like the notion that “showing our cards” is not the same as trying to get others to change.

Oh I am smiling at this… I know so many young, restless, and reformed… Beautiful way to make a point, John!

Wow. Thanks to David Nilsen for pointing me here.

As one who has (perhaps too soon) reached the “pulls the chair into the shade” years of life, and as a lover of words…well, I love this.

    Nice to meet you.
