Homecoming

I still believe God comes
down every once in a
while and dwells among
us. His agenda is strictly
homecoming, returning
to his senses by shedding
his shoes to run through
holy grass freshly mown
and have that smell take
him back to a time when
life was simpler, back when
he was still a carpenter’s boy,
back before becoming well
acquainted with grief.
To remain just outside the
radar of understanding or
to be a distant star in the
firmament is sometimes
more than even he can bear.
