Evermore

One day I shall walk on streets of gold
but for now I tread the lonely lanes of
wood and hay and stubble, earthy ruts
of the joy speakable that may not last
forever but are sufficient.

One day these lesser materials will be
bound as sheaves for the great fire and
seraphim will work a winged-alchemy
as heaven’s floor is waxed bright by the
memories of earth.

On that day our burdens shall be eased
and we shall claim Eureka! as we at last
clearly see our drossy lives reflected as
the treasures hidden at our feet they once
were and evermore shall be.

Thank you for this! It’s glorious! God has put these truths in front of me on all sides this week, and I have sorely needed it. Your words are part of the truth-pile he’s given to uplift my heart.
