Longest Round

walk out the front door,
cross the street,
head north three houses,
arrive at the sidewalk
which leads up the
steps to the front door
of the man who took
his life this week.
the house is bruised,
the embarrassed victor
left standing after
the longest round.
sometimes god stands
at the door and knocks
but its bolted from the inside
where the cries are muffled
by the insulation
in the walls which could speak
if they chose to
but have long refused.
sometimes god sits on the
front steps and weeps.

Seems he’s been weeping quite a bit lately.

Last night my husband and I helped a woman who was beaten and told to leave her home on Christmas eve. She had no shoes on and where we live it was -30 and snow everywhere. She slept in a office building where she works for two days with nothing. How can people be so unkind. Thank you for this peom–I am going to keep it in my journal. God does weep and hopefully we can help…in some way to show love. Thank you again.

Tender, beauty. Your words stir. Thank you and may God’s weeping move us to love more, and to walk out love to the hurting.

So, so sorry. I’ve walked through suicide in a community more than once – there is nothing harder except the death of a child. Prayers for all of you.
