New Lease

It was weeks after the buzz, enough time for most
to get back to doing whatever it was they were doing
before he up and walked away from death. It was also
enough time for his sisters to quietly regret the whole
shebang because their brother was not simply back
but different. He didn’t give a flying fig about his old life.
So he gathered his things and wordlessly moved out,
leasing a modest place in Jerusalem but spending most
of his time on the road frequenting taverns and reading
the classics, things he had always dreamed of doing.
Those who knew yesterday’s version didn’t get it; they
couldn’t (or quite possibly even refused to) consider
his tomb was really crampy Bethany and those two
smothering sisters. No, Lazarus was a new creation
by god and he intended to live hard until he died, again.
