Untitled

A boy comes along and
says I know the way.
We follow him not because
we trust him but
because we’re tired.
In no time its clear he’s lost and
what we thought might be
discovery is revealed as hubris.
He does not love the land
like he says he does.
What he loves is himself.
To find the wildness
we must first offer ourselves up.
We who are a bit older remember this.
We’ve been here before.

“To find the wildness we must first offer ourselves up.” Kind of needed to hear this today, John. Thanks for the tough-love reminder.

Thanks, Michelle. I could only remind you because I first reminded myself.

You could submit this one as a review for much of what comes out of the “Church Health” section of the CBA.

Larry, I choked on my evening coffee. Thanks, man, I needed some levity.

True, that. We do get tired and just sorta mosey along behind the clearest voice. So maybe there’s at least one good thing to be said about aging?

Diana, there’s quite a few good things about aging, huh? Thanks, hope you are well!

Not jaded yet, just a bit wiser. Age has many benefits. One of which is a hightened sense of smell. One can smell a phony a mile away. Discernment, perhaps. But ah, the poet says it so much pithier and sweeter. This is powerful, layered and wonderful. In the shortest of poetic forms you speak volumes. Bravo, John.
