Its A Hard Business Being Human

 ~
Instead of struggling to not be conformed to this world,
why not practice further prying open the breastbone
of our fragile existence, reaching deeper into creation’s
core to seize more and more of the pulsing fist of life?
Instead of straining to keep yourself unspotted from this world,
why not say I do to flesh and blood, and commit yourself to
a people and a place, and vow to love and be loved in return?
Its a hard business being human. Its much easier to hover
above your days like some Casper the holy out-of-touch ghost.
But even if your job performance is mediocre, the consolation
for trying is you’ll end up with memories instead of regrets.
Leave cleverness to the angels. Set your mind on things below.

And grab that life below for all its worth, that’s what I say. Enough hovering already.

“why not practice further prying open the breastbone…” yes, exactly. Such courage required.

So much tension here. Because, while God does speak to us, he also requires us to live and speak the things we hear from him here on earth, so as to bring his goodness and light into the world. We are to give his love and receive his love.

    Good words, sir.

being human is our job…nothing more or less. The rest is up to God
