In The Darkest

It is a vision that struck me as odd for I’d

not seen it before. I noticed the heart of

the word “prayer” is the word “ray.”

Not the name of a man who possibly

wears sideburns and prefers classic country

and the smell of Old Spice. But rather

“ray” as in a beam of radiant energy

of small cross section. Yes, that ray.

Being a man of (honestly) moderate cross

section is it emboldening to think of my

dullish pleas as instead glimmers or flickers

of radiance noticed by the One in the highest

who keeps watch over us here in the darkest.

This is so good. An insight into something I have looked at thousands of times, but never saw.

I love this so much, mainly for the words, but also because years ago in reading one of the stories of a person reporting what they saw when they were dead for a bit …. and they saw all these bright lights and were told they were prayers …. happy happy advent expectation!
