maybe…

Coffee and grape-nuts flakes – its an
old man’s breakfast but I don’t care.
A earthy regularity is maintained
with such early starts. Maybe what
the world needs now is more regular
men and fewer agents of change.

I’ve always wanted to read the paper
in church but I’m afraid folks would
take it as some statement of defiance
when I’d just like to mull the gospels
along with the op-eds. Still, maybe its
time I cave to this lingering temptation.

Although they still catch my eyes and
probably always will there is a growing
distrust of anyone over forty with a flat
belly. Yes, I realize this says much more
about me than it does about them. Maybe
it says I’ve come to value content over tone.

“content over tone” I take it you refer to the contents of the full belly…

And yes, we do need more regular men:
    regularly seen by their families
    regularly sitting in church
    regularly praying

I say, read the paper in the pew. Dare I say, even the comics. God knows we need more laughter in the world, and right there for starters, under the peaked roofs of sanctuaries.
