The news reporter said you just can’t make sense of something like this. He referred to understanding,the singular sense; but what about the plural senses?I can clearly make senses of something like this for Isee the tears huddling in the corners of my eyes and Ifeel the trembling of my hands at the keyboard and Itaste the copper of blood from biting my lips and Ismell the fear that sucks oxygen out of thin air and Ihear the sleeping of my children who for now are safe as the sun also rises on this dark July morningthat seems, I must report, to make no sense at all.
And my teenage son (who went to a midnight showing) loved the movie. Discussed all the overarching themes as only a true comic book geek can. Went to see it again last night. And yet, the tragedy was all over the news at the Y, as it should be, but still … How do I hold both those things?
