For Example
The central thing about loving her is that it very
much makes me want to continue living. For
example there was that evening we had dinner
at Le Bosquet with the mountains in our eyes
and Dino in our ears and she stunned me mid-bite
by saying you are such a glorious creature. Now
what kind of woman says something like that to a
man? I spoke nothing in return for I was in the
splendid mood of nothing. Then she said ashes
don’t return to wood, which I knew meant what
are we waiting for? so we finished our desserts
then walked hand in hand in the cool of the evening
beneath a moon the width of a woman’s thigh. I
think of that as one of the best nights of our lives
together, an experience beyond prayer, a moment
of some rare, lucky version of human happiness.
Beautiful, John.
Thanks for stopping by, Lyla.

I’m pretty sure my husband doesn’t know about your blog, and I, for one, am not telling him about this post. I’m stealing it. At least the first part, and then later will give credit where credit is Due. 🙂
[…] must-read for me, I get plain excited when I see he’s got a new post. In less than 20 lines, this one might be one of the best love poems I’ve ever […]
