Common Prayer
Courage is called for if you wish to fully admit your life.
This little exercise in self-knowledge has allowed me to
realize I wasn’t destined for the spiritual big time.
The ceaseless silliness of private ambitions and sexual
fantasies, spates of sloth, not to mention my sheer corniness,
add up to reveal much more Don Knotts than Don Quixote.
My private religion consists of reciting the Lord’s Prayer
twice daily, regularly rubbing my wedding ring (engraved
with the words ‘my beloved’) with my thumb, and
saying THANK YOU for every little magic from gas in the tank
to a decent prostate to the crows who perch on my fence posts.
I don’t know what all this means other than it is how I very
ordinarily live and move and have some ground of being.
That’s good religion.
Thanks, James. I thought you might understand.
Courage.
Thank you, Ann. It is quite a word, isn’t it?
courage, admission, gratitude = grounding. You do have a way with making words add up.
Thanks, Patricia!
Yea and amen, brother. Thank God for that decent prostate. We’ve been down the other road and now thank God for a gone prostate. And if what you are is ‘sheer corniness’ then may there please be lots more of it. I am thankful for your courage.
Diana, some days the sheer corniness is just more sheer. Thanks for stopping by.
