As It Is In Heaven

I’d like to believe we die and are reborn
in heaven as infants who will learn everything once again.
God will be the father and mother we always wished for,
the parent who will hold our hand and walk slow
with us in the evening and say
listen, do you hear that? that is the whippoorwill
and
look, look up there, that is the moon.
The first time we reach for the rose’s stem
we’ll find the thorn and draw back in pain.
God will take our palm and say
now that is a thorn, and this is your blood.
God will smile and smear the crimson tear away
with spit and say
let’s walk a little farther.
And then we will continue on.

You know what? This is my dream, too! Except. . . I never found these words to tell it. Thank you for that. And for all the words.
