Steps From The Light
You are nearing the light now, Nora.
Barely a woman when you brought
my father into this world. I wonder if
you wonder where oh where did my life
go? How did we all grow up so fast?
You are nearing the light now, Nora.
Back to the face of the girl you hardly
were, curious at old photographs asking
now who is that? Those are the sons who
steady you sweetly now, steps from the light.
Nora Blase – my Granny. I made the effort to see her last week, and I’m so glad I did. She ate an entire cup of soft serve ice cream and we talked of my life and she said I could use a haircut. She is old and growing more tired by the breath, leaning closer to the light. Yes, Granny, how did we all grow up so fast?
O, she is adorable!!! So good you took the time. Love this.
Such a tender story…
Such a face. Oh, my. I walk this road with my mama and my husband’s mama these days. Not yet in a hospital bed, but soon enough. Glad you got to see her, John. And I know she is, too. (And what is it about ice cream? Nectar of heaven, I swear.)
John, you were making memories for yourself when you went there. Something you will always remember…. and making her happy for one last time as she gets nearer to the Light.
Thanks, John. You will never know what this means to me!
Dad
Thanks, John, for allowing us to look into this window. Very touching and thought provoking.
Breathtaking………..that poem both warmed and broke my heart~ I miss my dear older ones, so beautiful you stopped and listened and understood. Never doubt your gift sir, beautiful words.
