(according to the root)

The context of love is the world.
This is a simple and complex
reminding, one of clarity and
responsibility, a wake up call
to our true vocation: to be lovers.
Lovers are amateurs (according
to the root), fumbling and figuring
it out by devotion to unselfishness.
You cannot be a good lover and be
distracted. Maybe this is why the
world’s shoulders seem often cold.

true vocation. . . fumbling and figuring it out . . .NOT distracted. Sigh. Today was a day when I did not love well, when impatience won inside my spirit. And my own shoulder feels decidedly cold tonight. I always love your words, but these cut to the quick tonight. How I wish I could fumble a little bit less.

This, dear brother, hits the heart of our longing and the heart of our culture on the head! I will return to these words often….they stir and remind me– what the hunger is and what is mine in positioning myself to be fed.
