Talk But Sound
The trick is to talk about the spiritual
without sounding so divine. Take, for example,
the way some speak of marriage as the union of two souls.
I’m sorry, the what? What in the world does that mean?
That phrase – what in the world – is the trick’s secret.
What does the spiritual mean in the here and right now
world where people hate themselves but love their phones,
and military moms still pray for the safe return of sons?
Talk spiritual but sound like the earthling you are.
Take, for example, the desire to wax about marriage.
Now anyone with one eye and horse sense knows it is really
life with another as it is worn away.
Beautiful!
I’m all over that trick.
Well-spoke.
