The Skin We Speak
Words are skin pulled tight
over the meat of our intent.
To speak the words I’m sorry
is epidermal etiquette beneath
which lies bloody raw sadness
striated with regret.
To offer this without words would
only further repel the heart of
one you love, so you say I’m sorry. And you hope your skin is thin enough the transgressed can see below, and forgive.
