the necessity of little w weddings

‘TIL DEATH DO US PART.
There’s big D Death, the one
thought of when vowing
during the big W Wedding.
But equally vital are the little d deaths
that occur all throughout the union –
the deaths of wishes and dreams
the endings of pets and parents
the cessations of jobs and identities
both real and imagined.
These partings cry for some small
ceremony, an arbor of time under
which to renew the old words.
Without these little w weddings
big D Death comes to find
two people two, long parted,
strangers sad, cold and alone.
