Jim

Feeling bright-eyed, confident, and arrogant doesn’t do this job…You are far better off being lost in your work and writing over your head. ~ Jim Harrison, The Ancient Minstrel

Thanks for saying that, Saint Jim.
They have given you your wings by now, right?
So you can fly at last alongside those Chihuahuan ravens
that mothered you here all those years?
Well if not, that’s a sin. But I bet they have.

Its not so much writing over my head
right now as it is writing over my heart.
Its damn near summer but the world
feels bitterish cold. We’re rationing love. Yes,
you got out at a good time, pal.

I’m staying off to side. Its hard though, not to get caught
up in the bullshiticus maximus. Pray for me, Jim.
Say, when you’re walking with God in the cool
drop a hint that a sign’d be nice, some cairn to stop
us dead alive in our tracks, just a small stack of miracles.

Thank you for this. I’m two days out from a book edits deadline that has been beyond difficult. Taking comfort in this quote.

There are angels among us and I for one am waiting…man I love your way with words my friend. How is your beautiful bride today?

Hi, Lynn. She’s scheduled for surgery next Thursday, then a long, long summer…thanks so much for asking about her.

I too have avoided with all my prayer-filled heart to get any of that “bullshiticus maximus” on my hands or shoes. Got to remember why we’re still here and what we’re supposed to be doing. Thanks.
