Make Good Choices
This week a woman preached against the
Sin of watching Game of Thrones. It struck
Me as odd she didn’t say anything about
Plagiarism, which in certain circles is
Considered much more than a peccadillo.
We pick and choose. Pickers, choosers.
Winners, losers. Ashes, we all fall down.
Of course there are those men (and women)
Who believe it sinful for a woman to preach at all.
These are the descendants of Esau, men (and women)
Who have sold their birthrights for bowls of fear
And trembles. At face value this can appear humble.
Yet if you crack the nut what you find at the
Center is a hungry hungry heart.
“Life’s a banquet, and most poor sons-of-bitches
are starving to death!” Auntie Mame preached
this although it was changed to “suckers” for the
silver screen. We pick and choose.
“I never knew you, depart from me.” Jesus preached
this whopper, and hearing it haunted me as a child.
Still does. And while not old, I’m older now, aware of
Another line that Jesus gently casts upon the rivers
Of my mind. “You’re troubled over too much.
There’s only one that matters. Pick and choose,
John.”
Interesting. I wonder which One matters…often I wonder.
Ah, yes. Pick and choose. And sometimes, that can break your heart.
Good stuff, John. Thank you.
