In Praise Of Blue

If God is Love (as the Bible says)

and Love is Blue (as the song says)

then the law of transitivity leads me to

at least consider the possibility that

God is Blue (as I’ve long hunched).

So much charming comes in blue—

blue jeans, blueberries, blue skies

smiling at me, she wore blue velvet,

blue birds, blue cheese, blue moon

(both the orb and the ale), big-hearted

blue whales in the big blue sea. See?

Of course there are kryptonitic blues

that can bring one to one’s knees. But

don’t forget those blues that anchor us

to our senses, the sadnesses that hurt

so good reminding us that we are here

and alive and although not yet that yes

all shall dawn well one bright blue morn.
