Teach Us

LORD, it’s hard to think. The ten thousand things

have multiplied to ten million and our wayward heads

are tossed about like a ship on the ocean for sure.

Putin (unfortunate last name IMO) is up to no good.

The miner took his heart of gold home, then Joni

grabbed her case of you—who’s next, O LORD?

Some Einstein declared Minnie needs a pantsuit!

as another genius determined Green M&M is slutty!

while the small god keeps chirping Trust the science!

The young priest (You know her) wrote a piece for

The Times urging churches to do away with online

offerings ‘cause flesh and blood needs flesh and blood

and boy did the feathers start flying with tweets of

ableist! The ink hadn’t even dried on the screen.

It’s a good thing You’re slow to anger. We’re not.

And the Bengals to the Bowl? O LORD, who can

understand Your ways? So, teach us to un-number

our heads, to humbly focus on the two or three things

gathered in front of us. Oh, and to not ban books.

Yes. This is our odd and unintelligable world. It is indeed a blessing that God is slow to anger. So much cause.
